INDUSTRIAL TESTINGMechanical Testing, Material Testing, Vibration & Shock TestingGreat demands are placed on today's products. In 70% of failures, fatigue loading played a key role. Knowing the relevant properties of the materials used to fabricate your products, and the required service life of each component can mean the difference between successful products and unhappy customers. RTS accurately determines a wide range of component properties: DURABILITY CAPABILITY:ASTM, SAE, MIL-STD and industry-specific testing of a wide range of products and components including: industrial bearings, pumps, shafts, axles, panels, frame structures, crankshafts, connecting rods, bearings, seals, door locks, hydraulic cylinders, and more.Testing modes include axial, torsional, bending, radial, oscillatory or full rotation, and all modes with feed-back controls. Equipment Capabilities include: load frames, servo-hydraulic actuators and controls from 1,000 lb to 150,000 lb, four open architecture test beds, environmental chambers, vibration and shock, computer controlled complex loadings, RPC, and LCF. MECHANICAL TESTING:Determination of strength, ductility and toughness for both metallic or plastic materials is done to ASTM, SAE or ISO standards. Test modes include tension, compression, flexural, torsional, impact, 3 or 4-point bending on standard samples or specialized materials. Equipment Capabilities include: 25 lb to 300,000 lb tension/compression testers, Drop Weight, and extensive sample preparation facilities.MATERIALS ANALYSIS SUPPORT:Metallic or plastic materials evaluation via macro and microscopic examination, quantitative phase identification, SEM, thermal cycling, salt spray testing. Equipment Capabilities include: Optical emission spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy, DSC, TMA, TGA, Viscosity, Zeiss Metallograph, Definitive Imaging Image Analysis, Rockwell and Brinell hardness, Diamond Pyramid and Knoop hardness, and Harshaw salt spray.VIBRATION,SHOCK & NOISE:MIL-STD, SAE, ISO, ASTM or industry-specific testing in different environments to determine a product's resistance to high levels of shock or vibration is done at RTS. Equipment Capabilities include: 1000 lb to 35,000 lb servo-hydraulic systems, 6000 lb electro-dynamic shaker, combined with Sine Controller (5-2000 Hz) and Random (5-3,000 Hz) and Field Data Simulation Controller, plus classical shock and FFT spectrum analyzer. B&K Noise analyzers to determine product or process noise levels.FIELD LOAD INVESTIGATION:Worldwide on-site evaluation and data acquisition is an RTS specialty. Portable high speed data acquisition, including 24 SoMat channels using standard strain gage application or specialty transducers is used to measure loads, stresses, speeds, pressures, noise and vibration. Telemetry and field computer systems are mounted directly to moving or rotating machinery to dynamically measure transducer output.Testing can be designed to correlate laboratory and field measurements. Vibration data are taken using accelerometers or modal hammer and a field computer, and subsequently converted to useable data. The use of VRC field data simulation software permits simulating field conditions in the laboratory on servo-hydraulic or electro-mechanical test stations. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT / TEST DESIGN:RTS can design and build special testers to measure operating parameters during simulated, but controlled, service conditions. Testers built to date include: Bearing testers for the Navy, motorcycle transmission testers, gear box testers, elevator lift capacity, helical gear reducers, carbon brush performance, medicine bottle closure durability, railroad tie fastener life, hand tool quality and others designed specifically for in-plant QA/QC use. |
